Guest Poet: Ron C. Moss
Haiku is world poetry. For our autumn issue, we have reached around the globe with an invitation for Tasmanian poet Ron C. Moss to be our guest. Yu and I had the pleasure of meeting Ron at Haiku North America in Long Beach, CA in the summer of 2013. All of us have admired his poetry and painting for many years now. We would like nothing better than to lure Ron to upstate New York in 2015 in order to be our literal guest during the next Haiku North America Conference , to be held at Union College in Schenectady from Wednesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 18. We are pleased to note that it looks like we will be seeing Ion Codrescu at the conference, where a major exhibition of his haiga is eagerly anticipated.
Hilary, Tom, Yu, and I enjoyed an annual trip to Paul MacNeil’s camp at Onawa, Maine this summer for a very productive renku session. During our four days together we completed two renku, twenty verses each, and still had time to enjoy the kayaking, hiking, and fine dinning experiences that have characterized these gatherings over the past fifteen yearsl
I have been busy with an on-line renku session sponsored by The Haiku Foundation (www.thehaikufoundation.org). Yu has been busy building and moving to a home office, following his retirement after forty years as a professor at Union College. I hope to follow his example soon. Tom, who has been retired for over a year, is exploring South America with his son, Casey, as we go to press. Hilary, on the other hand, is not only still employed but is intensely so, with teaching, composing, and traveling taking up much of her time. Most recently she has written a work commissioned by the Presteigne Festival and traveled to Wales for its premiere by the Cavaleri String Quartet.
